Thurso man admits being 'daft' in smashing window at house

A young Thurso man who smashed a window at the home he shares with his partner was fined £210 at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Stephen Murchison (24) was said to have been under the influence of drink and was "upset or emotional about something" when he lashed out at the window in the early hours of June 25.

Fiscal David Barclay said it wasn't clear whether Murchison, who was inside the property in Mayfield Road, Thurso, at the time intended to break the window but had struck it so hard that it broke.

He described himself to police who arrived on the scene as having been 'daft' in causing the damage, which he admitted along with a previous record of offending.

The fiscal added that the court would not be able to consider a compensation order as it had been impossible to ascertain the cost of replacing the window due to a lack of co-operation.

Solicitor Meegan Anderson said that Murchison recognised he had consumed too much alcohol.

The accused, a fisherman, had been off work with a leg injury but hoped to rejoin his vessel soon.
