The Thurso lifeboat was involved in a major operation off Sutherland when a yacht with three people on board was rescued.

The alarm was raised at 10.50am on Friday after the yacht got into difficulties, dragging anchor and with torn sails at the head of Loch Erribol near Durness.

Durness, Melness and Kinlochverbie coastguard rescue teams were sent as well as Thurso lifeboat and the coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Stornoway.

The yacht was helped into a holding position by a local tender with the coastguards and helicopter providing a visual watch until the lifeboat arrived.

The yacht was secured to a fish farm pontoon. All the yacht's crew were safe and well.
