Thurso RNLI's annual open day this weekend will give visitors a chance to look around the lifeboat station, meet the crew and go on board The Taylors, while there will be a range of other activities and entertainment.

The open day takes place at Scrabster on Sunday, from noon to 4pm.

Mina Mackay's Highland dancers will be performing and the RNLI souvenir shop will be open. There will be a baking stall, refreshments and a barbecue.

Earlier this year the strength of local support for the RNLI was highlighted when the Thurso Lifeboat Summer Fayre raised more than £13,000 – a record amount.

At last year's open day, lifeboat stalwart William "Wing" Munro was honoured for more than half a century of commitment to the RNLI.

He was presented with a medal marking 50 years' dedicated and loyal service, along with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee medal. A new searchlight was also dedicated to him.

Thurso lifeboat has featured in the BBC TV series Saving Lives at Sea, showcasing the work of the men and women of the RNLI.

The RNLI has 238 lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland and is funded mainly by donations. It receives no government funding.
