Members of the public can help a team of budding entrepreneurs from Thurso High School gain a national award – by voting online.

Thurso's Social-Eyes team will be representing the Highlands and Islands and Moray at the Young Enterprise Scotland (YES) Company Programme Finals in Glasgow later this month, competing against schools from across Scotland.

The awards will be decided by an expert panel of judges from industry, but the public can have their say too by voting in the People’s Choice Award category.

Alongside Thurso High School business studies teacher Lucy Bremner, the pupils have been mentored by Trudy Morris, chief executive of Caithness Chamber of Commerce.

Ms Morris said: “We are absolutely delighted the team have made it to the regional finals. To be representing the whole of the Highlands and Islands and Moray region is a phenomenal achievement.

"They have worked incredibly hard and shown terrific business acumen throughout the project. Their successes so far have been well earned and we have high hopes for the finals.

"Initiatives such as Young Enterprise Scotland are invaluable in developing and enhancing young people’s employability skills.

"Our work at the chamber and Developing the Young Workforce North Highland is crucial in supporting these projects, which help give our young people the confidence and skills to succeed in the future and introduce them to realities of the world of work and business enterprise.”

Social-Eyes is described as an innovative scavenger hunt bingo game, designed to be played by children while travelling. The game has been a resounding success and the team have secured stockists across the north Highlands.

The Social-Eyes team were named as Company of the Year at the YES Highland and Moray finals. They also took home awards for best trade stand, best financial management, best presentation and best company report as well as the Pioneering Leadership Award, presented to the team's managing director Ashleigh Coghill.

Those wishing to vote for the Thurso team in the People’s Choice Award can do so on the Young Enterprise Scotland website.

The awards will take place at Hampden Park, Glasgow, on May 31 as part of a three-day Festival of Youth Enterprise.
