A CHRISTMAS market consisting of locally produced food and crafts is being put together by the team at Thurso Grows, the food waste minimisation and community growing project.
Christmas shoppers are being encouraged to reduce their food miles this festive season and instead buy their treats locally from stalls such as Indulgence, CoCo Campervans, Scrabster Seafoods and Jumping Goats Dairy.
There will be 10 tables of local produce at the rugby club in Thurso on Saturday, December 14, from noon to 4pm.
Thurso Grows, run by Thurso Community Development Trust and funded by the Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund, will also have a table selling chutneys made with produce from Thurso Community Garden. There will be information on how to get involved with the project, as well as how to reduce your Christmas waste, and information from Highland Council on recycling.
Project coordinator Ann Brock explained that the Thurso Grows food and craft market is designed to help people reduce their carbon footprint this Christmas.
She said: “We are so excited to be running an event that will showcase some of the delicious food that is produced in and around Caithness. It is a really exciting development for our project and one we are hoping to build on for 2020.”
Thurso Grows will also have a stand at Thurso Fun Day on December 7.
