Police carrying out inquiries in Traill Street, Thurso, spoke to driver Hamish Marr and detected a smell of alcohol.

A breath test proved positive and the follow-up test revealed a breath-alcohol reading of 91mcg – more than four times the legal limit of 22mcg.

Marr, a self-employed artist, of Brownhill Road, Thurso, admitted having driven with excess alcohol on December 1, last year.

The 65-year-old was fined £400 and banned from driving for a year at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
