Saturday morning's queue outside the Christmas craft fair at the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) in Thurso stood testament to its popularity and the work of its host to stage it.
Caithness Crafts Galore Fayre on December 9 was packed to the gunwales and was organised by Susan Rennie of KnitsNBits who has been hosting craft fairs on the second Saturday of each month for over six years now.
Thurso artist Elaine Rapson-Grant praised Susan for her work and said: "She, along with her friend Catherine, have been faithfully running craft fairs with the greatest success, quietly beavering away without any fuss. With her warm and friendly manner, Susan is loved by every one of her regular crafters who join her each month."
For Saturday's event, Susan raised funds for RBLS Thurso through table sale profit, a raffle, Santa’s treasure hunt, lucky dip, face painting and a bottle stall. RBLS branch treasurer, Joe MacNeil, was on tea duties for Susan’s event and offering the "most wonderful cakes and fancies for all to enjoy".
Joe commented: “We at the Legion are very grateful to Susan for raising funds for us. In total, on the day, Susan raised a staggering £240 for the Thurso branch."
Susan said: “I really must give thanks to my friend Catherine who assists me with my craft fairs, as well as making up the posters for me. Without her help, the craft fairs would certainly not be so successful as they have become."
This was Susan’s last craft fair for 2023 but she is looking forward to welcoming everyone back again in 2024.
Elaine said that it was about time that the craft fair stalwart should finally get the recognition she deserves for all her years of charitable work.
