Thurso community event sees seeds swapped along with tools and toys fixed

Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT) kicked off 2025 with a hugely popular event that saw many flocking to its Tool Repair Café and Seed Swap.

On Saturday, the TCDT Community Greenhouses received an overwhelming response from local residents with 88 attendees and 36 repair requests – 33 of which were successfully fixed by dedicated volunteers.

TCDT development officer Sharon Dismore shared her excitement about the event's success: "It was amazing – we couldn’t believe the number of people who came out to support the day. The enthusiasm and engagement from the community were truly inspiring."

The Tool Repair Café and Seed Swap will now be a regular fixture, taking place on the last Saturday of each month from 2pm to 4pm. Local volunteers will be available to assist attendees in repairing their items, with tool sharpening and general tool repairs proving to be the most in-demand services. Other items brought in for repair this month included desk lamps, a toy piper and a lawnmower.
