There will be a range of crafters, traders and food options at Thurso's latest monthly market taking place this Saturday.

The markets are organised by Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT) with the aim of fostering a better sense of community while boosting footfall in the High Street area.

While the June event is fully booked for stallholders, TCDT encourages anyone with an interest in future markets to visit its website and book a place.

Development manager Joan Lawrie said: “People coming to the market means more people in the town centre. It’s our hope that those who come to the market will then pop in to a café for a bite to eat, stop in at one of our High Street shops to see what’s on offer, or visit our touristy spots in town.

"A busy market will hopefully continue to support our town centre after a rocky couple of years.”

TCDT has its own presence at each market with a small stall manned by members.

Chairperson Helen Allan said: “Attending the market as part of the trust is a wonderful experience. We’re in a very fortunate position to be a trusted part of the community, and we continue to do our best to be a group that people can rely on.”

The markets will continue on the third Saturday of each month through the summer. Plans for markets layer in the year are also being considered.

The trust relies on a dedicated core of volunteers to help put up and bring down the marquees and gazebos.

Further information can be found on the TCDT website.
