More than £4600 was raised for the UK's largest multiple sclerosis charity at the latest Music for MS gig in Thurso.

The event in the Park Hotel showcased a wealth of local talent and organiser Jack Macphee was delighted with the response.

Artistes for the day were Andy and Ailsa, Faith Charlton, Rain in Summer, ’E Cheils, John Holmes and Stu Robertson, Fern Strachan, Gross, Keith Macleod, Chancers, the Harper Band, Balls Oot, the Coolers, Saxifer and Special Delivery.

This year's event raised £4644 – which means that Jack has contributed £19,798 to the MS Society's Stop MS Appeal through the four Music for MS gigs held since 2018.

Jack said: “I am absolutely delighted with how well the day ran and would like to say a huge thank-you to all the musicians who played, to MacLOUD Sound who provided the PA and did the sound this year, and to everyone who turned out to help and support the day.

"MS Society Scotland is a charity that is close to my heart as my mother has multiple sclerosis, so I’ve seen first-hand what a debilitating disease it can be.”

Lizzie Blackwood, lead volunteer from the Caithness group of the MS Society, said: “It was a really enjoyable day and it is always great to hear live music.

"We cannot thank Jack enough for all his hard work arranging such a successful day, and all those who helped raise this terrific amount for the Stop MS Appeal."

The MS Society has a free helpline at 0808 800 8000 and more information can be found at www.mssociety.org.uk

The society is funding research to stop MS. It is making good progress working to find drugs that will repair myelin, the protective coating around nerves that is damaged by MS.

MS affects around 130,000 people in the UK. Symptoms typically appear when people are in their twenties or thirties, attacking the nervous system. Symptoms include sight loss, pain, fatigue, incontinence and disability.
