Staff and residents at Thurso's Pentland View Care Home are over the moon that a HR business partner has reached the final of a social care award.
Angela Brand is in the final selection for the Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards (WAGSCA) 2023, being shortlisted in the Equality and Diversity Champion category.
She said: “I still haven’t got over the shock of being shortlisted, I had no idea I had even been nominated! It is wonderful to think people took the time to vote for me, I am incredibly grateful and very touched. I absolutely love my job. Barchester is a brilliant company to work for and it is fantastic to be recognised for doing something I am so passionate about.”
A Barchester spokesperson said: "Over 85 per cent of the social care workforce is female and many have to juggle the challenges of family life with their career.
"The purpose of WAGSCA is to highlight and celebrate the incredible achievements of female leaders in all roles and from all corners of the sector, and create a platform to support rising stars and future leaders." The winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony on November 21 at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square hotel.
Originally from Edinburgh, Angela Brand now lives in the Scottish Highlands. Following a variety of different people-focussed retail, hospitality and training roles, Angela joined Barchester Healthcare as HR business partner (HRBP) in April 2020. She lives in Inverness and supports 29 homes in Barchester’s North Division.
"Angela specialises in learning and development but her real passion is for people, so she relishes her HRBP role because it means she can be involved in every aspect of her colleagues’ careers. She loves to see people flourish and exceed their potential and is passionate about equality and diversity in the workplace," said the spokesperson.
Regional director for Barchester, Wendy McGowan, comments: “Angela is an absolute superstar, she works incredibly hard and is a fantastic support for our homes in the north. She is such a people person and she really knows how the get the best out of our teams. I’m so proud of her, she definitely deserves to win.”
