Members of Thurso Camera Club held their first meeting of the summer season with a trip to the Geise Farm walk near Halkirk.

They were greeted by proprietor Stevie Donn, who has developed the farm over the past couple of years. Club members were able to take photos of a variety of farm animals that included unusual breeds of livestock and some very curious meerkats.

The Geise walk also features a well established woodland walk with seated areas for picnics and play areas for children. The wildlife could also present some good photographic opportunities.

The visit followed the club's AGM last month, when new chairperson Alisdair Mackechnie was voted in.

A series of indoor and outdoor visits are anticipated across diverse locations around Caithness and Sutherland over the summer, allowing photographers to test and develop their skills.

The club is in the process of selecting photos to represent Thurso in the forthcoming annual Highland Challenge photographic competition to be held in Dornoch later in the year. This event has clubs participating from across the northern Highlands.

The winter programme has yet to be finalised, but twice monthly face-to-face meetings in the autumn will resume at the Pentland Hotel, with a variety of speakers and activities including the club's monthly “in-house” competitions.
