The 2013 edition is to be the first in a planned “Div Ye Mind” series, evoking nostalgic memories of old Thurso.

It focuses on the shopping scene, with photographs and original adverts for well-known businesses such as Fred Shearer’s, Empire Tearooms, Anderson’s, Lindsay’s, Fidler’s and Spears’.

The new calendar will be unveiled at a quiz night held by the society in the Royal British Legion clubrooms tomorrow evening when a limited number will be available at a special promotional price of £4.50.

Society secretary Donald Smith said: “The financial success of last year’s calendar enabled the society to have the Robert Dick Memorial Seat at the boating pond completely rebuilt.

“Now other new and exciting projects are in the pipeline for the year ahead but these will only be possible with the continued support from the good folk of Thurso and those with Thurso connections who have so generously supported our work in the past.”

The calendar, called “e Thirsa Shoppies,” will go on general sale at £5 and will make a popular Christmas stocking-filler.

It will be available at local outlets or can be ordered from society members by contacting thursoheritage1@googlemail.com
