Two long-standing figures at 2nd Thurso Scout Group have been recognised for their outstanding commitment to local Scouting.

Beaver Leaders Sandra Carson and Ian Pearson were recently presented with forty-year service awards, marking four decades of dedication to supporting young people in Caithness.

The certificates were handed over by Second Thurso Scout Leader Volunteer Gary Stronach in a recent presentation.

Mr Stronach praised both volunteers for their lasting impact on the group.

“Both Sandra and Ina have shown dedication to Beaver Scouting,” he said. “Not only within Second Thurso Group but also in other areas such as Reay where both have been leaders for over twenty years.”

Reflecting on their time in the role, Ian remarked on the many changes the organisation has seen.

“The time has certainly flown by and in forty years there have been quite a few changes in Beaver Scouting,” he said. “When Sandra and I first started with Second Thurso we could not camp outside overnight, we did not accept girls and there were very few badges.

“All that has changed now, and Beavers are fully integrated within the Scout Movement who are fully inclusive.”
