THE Thurso branch of the Bank of Scotland has been closed temporarily so the building can undergo some repairs.

That was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the bank after an enquiry by the John O' Groat Journal.

She stressed the branch would open again when it is safe to do so. It is not known how long the premises will be shut or the nature of the work being undertaken.

The Bank of Scotland spokeswoman said: "Our Thurso branch is temporarily closed while part of the building undergoes some repairs and the branch will re-open once it is safe to do so."

She added: "While the branch is closed, customers can use our ATM or visit the nearby Post Office, which is a short walk away, on Meadow Lane and offers everyday banking services, access to cash, paying in of cheques, and more.

"The nearest alternative branch is in Wick, and customers can continue to use other ways of banking, including online, through the mobile app and over the phone."
