Thurso and Wick school bands get ready to do battle

YOUNG musicians from Thurso and Wick high schools are heading for Inverness to take part in a battle of the bands competition.

Final Comfort, from Farr and Thurso, and Company of Liars, from Wick, will join bands from throughout the Highlands for Get Noticed in the Spectrum Centre on June 18.

This new battle of the bands is being run by the Highland Council’s music development officer Norman Bolton in collaboration with Thunder In The Glen and Stashsound recording studio.

Mr Bolton said: "Following the success of last year’s competition we have more bands involved this year.

"The winning band will be given a 45-minute gig at August’s Thunder In The Glen event in Aviemore as well as a day’s recording studio time, a prize package which will be hotly contested by all the bands involved."

Also taking part are Purple Divide, from Inverness High School; Sally Cinnamon, from Nairn Academy; The Divide and The Avalanches, both from Grantown Grammar School; and The Stones Experience, Portree High School.

All seven bands will be sound-checking throughout the day with full professional technical support. The judges’ decisions will be announced at the end of the event.

Mr Bolton added: "Get Noticed is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with professionals and schools whilst offering an element of technical training.

"We, as a council offer opportunities for as many musical genres as possible and this is yet another example of the high quality events we can produce."

Doors will open at 6.30pm with battle commencing at 7pm. Tickets, costing £5) can be booked in advance by telephoning Angeline Walker on 01349 863441. There will be limited availability at the door.
