LOCAL farmers are being reminded that meetings are being held in Caithness next week to highlight a new electronic cattle identification system.

ScotEID roadshows about the state-of-art system, that will spell the end of paper passports, are being staged on Wednesday (December 11) in the Pentland Hotel in Thurso at noon and the Norseman Hotel in Wick at 7pm.

Meetings have already taken place from Shetland in the north to Stranraer in the south in the first round of consultations. A second phase begins in the new year.

ScotEID’s Anna Robertson said farmers and industry representatives have engaged well so far, turning out in good numbers and bringing up relevant points during discussions.

“It has been great to have so many people coming along to find out more about technology that will shape the future of recording cattle movements in the industry for decades to come, bringing many benefits with it," she said.

Those interested in attending next week's meetings should contact the ScotEID team on 01466 794323.
