After what organisers say was a "phenomenal" first year, Thrumster Game and Countryside Fair returns this Saturday (August 10).

Members of the public are invited to "come and enjoy a taste of country and rural life" from 10am until 4pm on the show grounds near Thrumster House and entry is free.

Chairperson Karin McGivern believes that this year's show will build on the success of 2018. “We were absolutely delighted with the attendance last year and look forward to welcoming both returning and new visitors on Saturday," she said. "Bring along the family to this free entry event and have a fun-filled family day out.”

Huntly Falconry Centre will again give a demonstration with its birds of prey and the Thrumster Estate livestock show has increased entries this year.

Other interactive activities on the day will include pet shows, terrier racing, ferret racing and long-netting demonstrations. The countryside rangers and Caithness Community Connections will also be on the field for free children's activities.

This year sees the introduction of a food hall with a demonstration area showing deer butchery, cooking with spice from Zepice and drinks from exhibitors.

Karin said: "We have a shopping avenue with some quality produce from local crafters. Our educational area has a 'fleece to fibre' section where you can learn all about wool, from taking it off the sheep to processing, dyeing and working with the final product.

"We are delighted to have Armadale Gun Club back to manage our clay-pigeon shooting competition. Other highlights include archery from Caithness Archers and a chance to meet the alpacas from Caithness Alpaca Trekking."

There will be a free entry dance in the main marquee in the evening from 8pm until 1am. Further information can be found at www.thrumstergamefair.com
