Three days of 'essential surfacing improvements' on A9 near Thurso – expect 10mph convoys

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to resurface 505m of the A9 at Geiselittle near Thurso, with works scheduled to get underway on Wednesday, May 3.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a 10mph convoy system will be in place from 7am to 7pm each day. The convoy system will be removed outside working hours, but a 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface. All surfacing works will be completed by 7pm on Friday, May 5, subject to weather conditions.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West representative said: “This surfacing project on the A9 will help address defects and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance. The project will also improve the road surface, creating a smoother ride for road users.

“Traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Regrettably, there will be some delays, but our teams will do all they can to complete the scheme as safely and quickly as possible, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
