THIRTEEN new Covid-19 cases have been detected across the NHS Highland health board area.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 4411 to 4424 when the latest daily update was published by the Scottish Government at 2pm.

Twenty-nine people with Covid-19 were being treated in NHS Highland hospitals last night – two fewer than the day before. Seven of these were in intensive care – down one from yesterday.

There were 773 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours, representing six per cent of all tests which were carried out during that window.

Some 1383 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals – 45 fewer than yesterday. And, of those, 100 were in intensive care. This was down by two.

But sadly a further 49 deaths were registered among people who had tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Eileanan Siar registered two new coronavirus cases. It has now had 252 known infections since the start of the pandemic.

But Orkney and Shetland once again went another day without any new positive tests.

On the mainland, some 27 new cases were confirmed across NHS Grampian, taking its total to 13,124.

And there were 30 fresh infections across NHS Tayside, which has now recorded 12,734 cases.

There have been 193,148 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Scotland since the pandemic began last spring.

Some 1,288,004 people have now received their first vaccine injection – 32,814 up from Monday’s update.
