Another huge Subsea 7 towhead has been transported through Wick – the third in the space of a week.

All three are for a 7.67km pipeline bundle for the Aker BP Yggdrasil project, with Saturday’s delivery following on from others the previous Sunday and on Wednesday.

Again, several streets on the north side of the town were kept clear of traffic as the towhead was moved from the harbour on a multi-wheeled trailer, proceeding at walking pace with workers alongside on foot. It was accompanied by a number of escort vehicles and again police officers were in attendance.

As with all such deliveries, the massive yellow towhead had to negotiate a few tricky corners before heading out of Wick to Subsea 7’s Wester site.

Members of the public looked on at various points, with many capturing the spectacle on cameras or phones.

The final offshore installation location will be the Yggdrasil field in the northern North Sea.

The contract was awarded through the Subsea Alliance.

Signs were placed on pavements recently to notify the public that movements will continue up until late August. It is understood there will be seven towheads in all over this period.

Subsea 7 has thanked local residents for their “cooperation and patience”.
