Trees down and schools closed but Caithness 'escaped the full wrath' of Storm Jocelyn, says local weather pundit

With reports of fallen trees blocking the A9 at Berriedale, trains cancelled and schools being closed, Storm Jocelyn certainly made an impact in Caithness over the last 24 hours.

Wick weather watcher Keith Banks, however, says that Caithness "escaped the full wrath" of the storm.

"Nevertheless, gale force 8 west-north-west winds blasted Caithness during Wednesday morning as the storm moved away towards Norway.

"The peak gust recorded here in Wick was 67mph – that's violent storm 11 on the Beaufort scale and the morning also witnessed lots of potentially damaging gusts in the storm force 10 category, 55mph-63mph. "The strong WNW winds will gradually ease as the day progresses as a ridge of high presume builds in from the Atlantic by midnight."
