A video of a local woman taking part in a social media lockdown challenge to raise funds for the NHS has gone viral with over 138,300 views.

Fifty-year-old Nicola Sutherland, of Dunnet, was one of many Caithness people to take part in the egg, sugar and shot challenge currently trending on Facebook.

Her three attempts to swallow the raw egg were so hilarious they had everyone in stitches with over 520 comments made about how funny it was.

Overwhelmed by the response, Nicola said: "What a carry-on – it is for a good cause and if it encouraged more people to take part it's all good."

The furloughed Park Hotel barmaid explained: "I watched my two sisters doing it. They did it no bother and I thought I could sail through it too – but no, that did not happen."

Nicola said she did not enjoy her raw egg, which came from her own hens, and was sure she had managed to succeed in swallowing it on her third go only to find the yolk splattered on the table in front of her.

She took it all in good spirits, saying: "I always laugh at myself."

The video clip, under her Nicola Banks Sutherland profile, went public after being shared by family and friends with the challenge being posted on various Facebook sites as well as Instagram.

Many people who commented felt it was the best attempt they had seen, causing much hilarity.

Those taking part in the fundraiser have to first swallow a raw egg, followed by a spoonful of sugar, chased down by a shot of alcohol. They then nominate friends and give them 48 hours to complete the task.
