A new shop and tours are on the horizon for the most northerly rum distillery on the UK mainland after winning being granted a license by Highland Council.

North Point Distillery has secured permission from the local authority to open a distillery shop and begin tours at the licensing board meeting earlier this week.

An early July opening for tours is being targeted by management which, given pandemic restrictions, will allow visitors to make bookings on the distillery website.

Based at the former U.S Navy base in Forss, the multi-award winning distillery produces a range of small-batch Rums and Highland Gin.

It has a strong focus on sustainability and innovative use of traditional spirit production equipment and aims to be the “most sustainable” producer in the country.

Head of marketing Laura Mackenzie said: “We are delighted that our application has been approved by the council’s licensing board.

“This is the final step in welcoming visitors to North Point Distillery for tours of our stillhouse and the opportunity to purchase our spirits and a range of locally produced goods in our recently refurbished onsite shop.

“Over the last three months, the business has invested heavily in the distillery to create a welcoming environment for both visitors and locals alike - and we feel there is something for everyone.

“Once the final approvals are returned by the local authority we expect to formally open to the public in early July, with our first tours now available for booking through the North Point Distillery website.”
