Over the next few months, Caithness Family History Society (CFHS) will revert to online virtual events until the spring. The previous one, in September, attracted members from all over the UK and also from abroad, including an enthusiastic Australian man who got up at 4am in order to take part.
On Wednesday, December 8 at 7pm, Muriel Murray of Castletown Heritage Society will give CFHS a talk entitled, The Australian Connection: The Importance of Caithness Settlers in Establishing the State of Victoria.
Anna Rogalski of CFHS said: "The speaker’s meticulous research has uncovered the names, social backgrounds and skills of some of the Caithnessians who made their way to Australia in the early nineteenth century and were influential in its development.
"Muriel is a regular speaker for the society and has a way of turning history into an easy-to-listen-to story. The evening should be fascinating."
