MP Jamie Stone says he is proud that Ukrainian refugees in the Highlands 'have been welcomed so warmly into local communities' after President Zelenskyy's speech to Westminster on Wednesday, February 8.

Stone said: “It was a privilege to hear President Zelenskyy's moving address today. Listening to this brave man's words brought home just how barbaric Russia's unprovoked war truly is. The Highlands stands in solidarity with Ukraine and supports the country’s courageous defiance of Putin's criminal invasion.

“Indeed, many Ukrainians have now made the Highlands their home and I am proud that they have been welcomed so warmly into our local communities after being forced to flee their homes. We are all united in our support of Ukraine and, in the words of the President, remain confident that freedom will win. Slava Ukraini.”

In his address to parliament in Westminster, Zelenskyy said: "London has stood with Kyiv from day one. From the first seconds and minutes of the full–scale war, Great Britain, you extended your helping hand, when the world had not yet come to understand how to react."

“The people of the United Kingdom and their honourable representatives, all the people of England and Scotland, of Wales and Northern Ireland, of all the lands which have been home to brave souls since Europe came into existence.

“I have come here and stand before you on behalf of the brave, on behalf of our war heroes who are now in the trenches under enemy artillery fire, on behalf of our air gunners, and every defender of the sky who protects Ukraine against enemy aircraft and missiles, on behalf of our tank men who fight to restore our Ukrainian borders, on behalf of our conscripts who are being trained now including here in Britain.
