The Highlands are top for a staycation
Mary Scanlon has congratulated North tourist providers after the Highlands came top in a Travelodge survey.
THE Highlands have been named as the top holiday destination for people planning to holiday in the UK this year, according to a survey by Travelodge.
Mary Scanlon, Scottish Conservative MSP, has welcomed the findings and submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament congratulating those in the North tourist industry who work hard to make the area a top destination.
She said: “Those of us lucky enough to live and work in the Highlands are well aware of what it has to offer so it is very encouraging to see that this message is continuing to spread.
“To beat the Scottish and UK capitals shows the pull our tourism industry and iconic scenery has on holidaymakers.

“If these poll findings transfer to actual holidaymakers it will be a great boost to our local hotels and bars as well as accommodation providers.
“Many businesses have built up a great reputation for Highland hospitality over the years and I am certain that first-time holidaymakers visiting the Highlands will receive such a warm welcome that they will come back year after year.”
A total of 5000 people where surveyed by the budget hotel chain, with the Highlands beating London, Edinburgh, Blackpool, Manchester, the Peak District, the Lake District, Cornwall, Great Yarmouth and Scarborough.
