The Highland Council hosts safe-driving event

NORTH drivers are to be encouraged to pass down sensible driving habits to their youngsters.

The Highland Council is hosting a family road safety evening in the hope that parents can teach their children a thing or two about road safety – while learning more themselves.

Highland Council’s road safety officer, Lisa MacKellaich, said: “This is a free, informative, fun and interactive night for all the family. If you have concerns about young people within your family who are already, or are about to start, driving then the family road safety evening will prove to be an extremely useful experience and we would encourage as many people as possible to come along.”

Families will hear real-life stories about incidents and collisions, car modification and sensible decision-making from representatives of the Highland Council road safety unit and the Northern Constabulary road policing unit.

The Driving Instructor Association will be there to inform young people and their parents about how to choose a suitable driving teacher.

Interactive activities include the Fife Constabulary driving simulator, a seat belt convincer as well as a tour of the Northern Safety Camera Partnership van.

There will also be a chance to win a “Pass Plus” driving course worth £150.

The event will be held at the Highland Council headquarters in Glenurquhart Road, Inverness, on Wednesday, November 2, from 6.30pm to 9pm.

Places can be booked by e-mailing road.safety@highland.gov.uk, by phoning 01463 720690 or by signing up on Northern Constabulary’s Facebook page by choosing the “attend” option.

Spaces are limited and the first 50 people to sign up will be guaranteed a family space.
