Newly re-elected chairman of Dounreay Stakeholder Group (DSG) Struan Mackie has recognised the service to the body of his predecessor Bob Earnshaw.

Mr Earnshaw, who was latterly an honorary member, has now stood down.

Speaking at DSG's agm in Thurso on Wednesday evening, Mr Mackie said: "I'd like to place on record our thanks to Bob for his commitment to DSG as an honorary member and past chairman.

"His contribution over the years to DSG and the wider community was valued and we will miss him."

Giving his annual report, Mr Mackie said the work of DSG had continued to be affected by Covid restrictions, with nearly all meetings held online.

But he added: "Despite the restrictions, we continued to operate as smoothly as we possibly could and over the last calendar year we arguably had more DSG activity than in any other I can recall."

Covid was largely responsible for a projected £12,000 underspend in DSG's annual budget of £30,000.

Mr Mackie was returned unopposed, as was vice-chairman Davie Alexander.

Mr Alexander was also re-elected to chair the socio-economic group, while Gillian Coghill continues to chair the site restoration sub-group.
