Sir – May I take this opportunity to thank Castletown and community for their generous response to the 2012 Blythswood Shoebox Appeal.

Representatives from Castletown Primary School loaded 146 boxes onto the lorry and also handed over cheques amounting to £230 to help with costs of transportation.

Boxes were received from Castletown and Community Free Church, Olrig Church of Scotland, the local SWRI group, members of Castletown and community, from Thurso and from children, parents, guardians, staff and kitchen staff at Castletown Primary.

A further 110 shoe boxes arrived at the lorry from Dunnet Church and community.

Can I express my personal thanks to those who helped me to run the appeal at the school – Ann Manson, Chris Nicolson and, in particular, my sincere thanks to Jane Bannerman. Thanks also to the obliging school and kitchen staff, to Jackie Sutherland, photographer, and to the school janitor, David Kirk, for his help and encouragement.

I am only one of many local co-ordinators and I’m sure they would all join with me in thanking our communities for their generous spirit and their willingness to be involved in this wonderful appeal once again. Time now to begin looking out for things to put into next year’s shoe boxes!

It was heartening to also load foodstuffs for Blythswood’s Highland Food Bank onto the lorry on the same day.

These came jointly from the congregations of Castletown and Community Free Church and Wick Free Church.

It is good to know the foodstuffs so generously given will help to feed hungry families in the Highlands over the coming months.

Free Church Manse,

Main Street,

Castletown
