Temperatures set to soar in Caithness

SUMMER is on its way to the Far North as experts predict soaring temperatures in Caithness later this week.
The Met Office has announced that the mercury is to rise significantly, with Friday and Saturday expected to see temperatures of over 20 degrees Celsius.
The west of the county is likely to enjoy the best of the weather and on Friday it could reach a high of 21C.
Wick is not expected to break to the 20C barrier but at 18C will still be quite warm for the time of year.
Met office spokesperson Charlie Powell said that temperatures could be as much as eight degrees higher than is normally associated with May.
“In the Far North of Scotland during this time of year, the average temperature is usually around 13 degrees Celsius,” he said.
“The best of the weather for Caithness is expected to last from Thursday until Sunday with it probably reaching over 20C in most parts of the county.
“There will be a noticeable difference between the east coast and the west, as temperatures will be significantly warmer the further inland that you go.
“Winds will increase on the east coast and that will bring temperatures down in Wick, but Thurso should get even warmer on Saturday and Sunday.”
Mr Powell warned that UV levels would also be quite high during the week, with little cloud expected at the weekend, and advised people to wear sunscreen.
The rest of the country is also expected to be bathed in sunshine with the warmest temperatures – up to 25C – expected to be found in the West Highlands.
