A sheriff has ordered a personal appearance by a teenage driver whose car left the road and overturned.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty by letter when his case was called at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday. He cannot be named as he is under the age of 18.

The accident occurred on the B874 at Westfield, on September 16 when the accused was said to have been travelling at an excessive speed and lost control, whereby his passenger was injured.

Sheriff Andrew Berry said it was “a matter of some gravity” that could involve disqualification.

The accused is due to appear in court on January 26.
