A Thurso teenager has been remanded in custody after failing to observe the terms of a court-imposed curfew.

The 17-year-old spent the weekend in a cell after police found he was not at home after seven on Friday evening.

He appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court on Monday and admitted failing to comply with a 7pm to 7am curfew, which was a condition of a previous bail order. He also admitted previous convictions.

His not guilty plea to resisting arrest, while on bail, was accepted.

Solicitor Peter Malone said the youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had a troubled upbringing.

"He seems to be an easily led individual," he said.

His client, he said, is receiving help for his problems so he can "turn things around and can contribute positively to society."

Mr Malone asked for bail but Sheriff Ian Miller remanded him pending his return to court on Wednesday, when he is appearing for sentence on other matters.
