Sentence has been deferred on a young Caithness man who brandished a hammer at a train driver.

Scott Michael Shearer pleaded guilty by letter at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday to threatening or abusive conduct on the rail line on the approach to Wick railway station on April 5.

The 19-year-old admitted acting aggressively towards the man in the execution of his duty and brandishing a hammer towards him.

Shearer's not guilty pleas to trespass and having an offensive weapon were accepted by the Crown.

Shearer, of Hospital Road, Wick, will be sentenced on November 15 when community justice social work reports will be available.
