Teenage driver fined after car overturned in Caithness
A teenage driver lost control of his vehicle which left the road and overturned.
The apprentice mechanic escaped serious injury but his passenger sustained a gash to the back of his head and facial cuts, Wick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old admitted having driven carelessly on the B874, at Westfield, on September 16, last year. He cannot be named as he is under the age of 18.
Fiscal David Barclay said that the accused had lost control because he had been travelling too fast.
Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that the accused had accepted responsibility at an early stage and added that he had started a safe-driving awareness course.

Sheriff David Sutherland noted that the accused was endeavouring to further his career but commented that the fact that one of his friends had suffered in the accident would remain with him for some time.
The teenager was fined £300 and incurred four penalty points.
