Eight good causes in Caithness were given a substantial funding boost thanks to an outstanding effort by a team of keen walkers.

Wull MacDonald, Evan Center, Arthur Bruce, David Oman, Ross Suttar, Lauren McWilliam, Paula Coghill, Lynne Davidson and Kevin Keenan signed up for the Glencoe Challenge – a 26.2-mile trek in July from the heart of Glencoe over the Devil's Staircase and down to the finish at the foot of Ben Nevis.

They called themselves Team Tender, dedicating their challenge to their late friend Donald McWilliam, known to many as Tender, who died suddenly in May 2021 at the age of 59. He was the father of Lynne and Lauren.

The walkers had to contend with near-constant rain on the way but still managed to cross the finishing line two hours under the deadline of 12 hours set by the organisers to notch up £4000 in sponsorship for the Caithness charities.

The charities which each received £500 were Wick Paths Group, Seafarers Memorial Group, Caithness Foodbank, Caithness Heart Support Group, the Healing Hub, Wick Model Yacht Club, Cycling Without Age (Wick) and Caithness branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association.
