A FAR North nature reserve is set to feature on a new wildlife series exploring Britain’s natural environment.

Survival expert Ray Mears was at the RSPB’s Forsinard centre as part of his new series, Wild Britain.

It was one of the stops on his travels to remote areas he made to discover different habitats and wildlife in the UK.

During his visit to the reserve, Mears observed a nest of newly hatched hen harrier chicks.

Locals also have the chance to observe the family in their natural habitat as CCTV footage of the nest is beamed to the visitor centre.

Site manager Norrie Russell said the nest makes for fascinating viewing.

"Watching them exercise their growing wings and making excited leaps into the air is great fun," he said.

"We hope the insight this footage provides into the lives of hen harriers will increase appreciation for them."
