Organisers of Wick’s gala are hoping to a colourful event.

BUSINESSES in Wick are being encouraged to add their own splash of colour to the town’s biggest event.

Organisers of this year’s Wick Gala will be holding a window display competition during the week-long festival which starts on Saturday, July 23.

This year’s competition theme is summer carnival and shop owners are being challenged to come up with a bright and colourful display which celebrates the spirit of the civic celebration.

Chairwoman Donna Plowman said the main emphasis of this year’s event is to get as many people as possible involved.

"The window display competition has been running at the gala for a number of years," she said.

"But the response was always very low and not a lot of emphasis was made of it. This year we want that to change and are calling on shopkeepers to put on their creative thinking caps."

A trophy will be presented to the shop with the best and most-imaginative-dressed window during the gala.
