A Caithness Young Farmers group celebrated in style after marking the 100th year since the organisation was formed in the county with a national prize.

Bower Young Farmers returned from the Royal Highland Show at Ingliston, Edinburgh, with the trophy for the Club of the Year.

The club had successfully got through district and regional competitions to compete in the national final at the weekend.

It involves the club showcasing its achievements over the last 12 months, with judges looking for an active club with a good presence within the community, good support from members and participation in all aspects of the Young Farmers calendar.

Club members also had to devise a promotional video to show the judges why their club should be crowned the best in Scotland.

Some of Bower’s highlights included gathering items for their local food bank to club members flying to Chile as part of the International Travel Programme.

The club took to social media to thank all its members and supporters, adding: "After a weekend of celebrations and emotions the cobwebs have just about blown off and the weekend's success is starting to sink in.

"The club would like to take the opportunity to thank all our supporters who’ve backed us in everything we’ve done this past year, we absolutely would not have had such a successful year without the continued support of ex-members, parents, friends and family and we are so grateful to everyone who has helped us!

The winning Junior Stockjudging team from Caithness was Benjamin Rodgers, Abbie Gunn and Isla Mackay.

"It’s even more special for us to take the trophy home north as this is the 100th year since the first Young Farmers club was created and it all started in Caithness, which makes this award, this year, even more special for us."

There was further success for Caithness young farmers when the junior stockjudging team – made up of Isla Mackay, Abbie Gunn and Benjamin Rodgers – scooped first prize within the junior section.

Meanwhile, Forss pair Rhianna Mackay and Abby Mill made it to the final of the Ready Steady Country Cooks competition having earlier qualified to represent Highland. They impressed judges at the Royal Highland Show in the semi-final against East area on Saturday and qualified for the final on Sunday, in which West pipped them to the post.
