The Subsea 7 pipeline bundle fabrication site in Caithness has returned to normal operation after workers were advised to stay at home because of a positive Covid-19 test involving one of their colleagues.

A spokesperson for the company said: "Last Wednesday one employee informed the company of their positive test result from the local health authority, before self-isolating at home with no serious health conditions – close contacts have been tested.

"As part of our approved procedures, all Covid-19 safety protocols were activated and as a precautionary safety measure site personnel were advised to stay at home until yesterday [Monday] while the situation was assessed.

"Subsea 7 remains vigilant with our prime concern being the health and welfare of all personnel. With our mobile workforce and global reach of our work projects, we have implemented a range of safety measures and precautions across the company to reduce the risk of exposure, in line with guidance from international and local health authorities."

The spokesperson confirmed that the site at Wester was operating as normal from Monday morning.
