A three-storey block at Thurso High School has had to be closed as a result of structural concerns.

The move follows a recommendation by structural engineers, Highland Council confirmed today.

A spokesperson said: "Following on from a routine site inspection, structural engineers identified potential concerns in relation to the condition of the concrete frame in the three-storey, 1960s extension block.

"The recommendation from the structural engineers is to close the three-storey block until further assessment is carried out.

"Alternative arrangements are being made to accommodate the affected classrooms and discussions are ongoing with the head teacher in this regard. The rest of the school campus remains operational."

The spokesperson said the school is "open to all pupils as normal".
