KIDS in Caithness are wowing the crowds by busting their moves on the dance floor.

Rush.dance is a street-dancing group which performs demonstrations to the public across the Highlands.

The group is the brainchild of founders Willie Miller and Stephanie Chadwick, who learned street dancing as children growing up in the 1980s.

Through talent shows like Britain’s Got Talent and movies such as StreetDance 3D, the dance form is proving popular once again.

Willie (40), who is a dance instructor from Wick with over 20 years’ experience, said the main emphasis of the group is having fun.

“I first learned street dancing as a kid in 1983 and was part of a crew called the Egyptian Warriors which won a number of Scottish titles. Street dancing is back in a big way through high-profile groups such as Diversity.

“Our group is open to anyone over the age of three and of all abilities. We aim to provide activities which help get you fit and make new friends at the same time.”

He added: “Street dancing also helps youngsters improve their confidence and self-esteem while at the same time having fun.”

There are currently 125 youngsters from across Caithness who are members of Rush.dance.

The group puts on street and break-dance classes, workshops and dance fitness projects for children across the area. Its Rush Crew is also available for hire and puts on demonstrations at major shows.

A group of street dancers recently wowed crowds with its energetic performance at Castletown Primary School’s fair day.

The youngsters are also due to perform at Canisbay Gala, Lybster Gala and Thurso Gala this summer.

Break-dance classes take place in Thurso every Tuesday and in Wick every Wednesday.
