Strathy man died at accident blackspot
A FAR north man was returning from taking part in his first sheepdog trials when he was involved in a fatal road accident.
Niall Gunn was less than a mile from home when his van slewed off the A836 road and plunged 10-15 feet down an embankment.
The wreckage was hidden from the road and it is believed the 25-year-old farmworker could have been in the van for up to 24 hours before he was discovered dead inside it by two relatives on Sunday evening.
The tragedy occurred on the east end of his home village of Strathy at an accident blackspot which has been the subject of repeated calls by community representatives to have a crash barrier erected.
Mr Gunn had been reported missing by his family after he had not been seen since taking part in the sheepdog trials at Melvich on Saturday afternoon.

Police had been searching for him but it was two relatives who came across the wreckage shortly before nine on Sunday evening.
Mr Gunn's van veered off the road at the crossroads for Strathy East and Strathy West and careered over a grass verge and come to rest in a patch of gorse near a burn.
Strathy and Armadale Community Council has made repeated calls for a .”
Mr Gunn's body has been taken for a post mortem examination while a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal. Police have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101.
