Postmistress Morag Macleod retired on Monday after more than 37 years' loyal service to the Strathnaver community.

The long-serving postmistress has run the rural branch since 1984, after moving with her family to Strathnaver to take over a smallholding. The previous postmaster was leaving, and asked Morag if she would consider taking over the branch.

David Duff, Post Office network provision lead, presented gifts to Morag Macleod on her retiral.

Now, 37 years later, Morag said her favourite part of the role has remained the same – serving her customers.

She said: “They are friends and neighbours, and I shall miss serving them.”

Morag said the Strathnaver community was close-knit, and she thanked residents for their support throughout the years, as well as extending thanks to the postman and the postmaster at nearby Bettyhill Post Office.

She is planning on taking things easier on her retirement.

“I’m looking forward to spending more time with friends and family and am hoping for some good weather to enjoy my garden too," she said.

Morag will remain in Strathnaver and said she will have her kettle ready to welcome any of her customers or colleagues for a chat.

David Duff, Post Office network provision lead, said: “We thank Morag Macleod for her loyal and devoted service to Strathnaver and we wish her a happy, well-earned retirement.”

We are looking to restore a post office service in this area, as soon as possible.
