The Met Office has warned of potential disruption as strong winds are set to reach the Highlands today.

The impact of Storm Agnes – the first named storm of the season – is set to stretch between Caithness and Strathspey, affecting also Inverness and the North East with adverse weather condition.

A yellow weather warning is currently in place and is expected to last from 12pm today until 7am on Thursday.

Police Scotland have warned of potential travel disruption and called for anyone travelling in the affected area to plan ahead in case of delays on the road.

The Met Office website states that injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible as well as damage to buildings and power cuts.

Anyone finding themselves near sea fronts or coastal roads should also be aware of potential risks caused by large waves and beach material.

Some minor flooding of coastal roads is also possible.
