Stone throwing costs first offender from Lybster dearly

Stones thrown by Steven McPhee prove to be a costly piece of vandalism.

The accused damaged a wall and a window and was ordered to pay the owner of the property compensation of £550, by Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood at Wick on Thursday.

In addition, McPhee (26) was also ordered to carry out 70 hours of unpaid community work.

He admitted a charge of wilful or reckless behaviour at Wick Sheriff Court. The matter was reported to the police who interviewed McPhee after they spoke to witnesses to the incident, which occurred outside a house Shelligoe Road, Lybster, early on March 7, 2020.

Fiscal David Barclay said that no-one seemed to know why McPhee had acted in the way he did. Solicitor Sian Fish described his actions as "very silly".

McPhee, of Golf View Place, Lybster, was described as a first offender.
