Far North MP, Jamie Stone, is encouraging vulnerable constituents who are customers with BT to sign–up to their free priority fault repair scheme for landlines and broadband.

BT customers with a chronic long-term illness, disability or with a severely sick child are eligible for their Priority Fault Repair scheme, which aims to fix faults within 24 hours. The scheme applies to every day of the year, including Christmas day. The scheme means that BT will try to fix faults with phonelines/broadband as soon as possible, so those who are most vulnerable aren't without service. Applications must be countersigned by a doctor or hospital consultant.

Commenting, Mr Stone said:"In this day and age, being connected is an essential. For those with a disability, chronic illness, or a dependence on care alarms, a working landline is a lifeline.

"The weather is getting worse – now is the time to double check that those who are eligible, be it yourself or loved ones, are signed-up to the free priority fault repair scheme.

"Not nearly as many who need to know about this scheme do. Please share this initiative far and wide so that the most vulnerable are given extra protection and peace of mind over what is likely to be a harsh winter."
