Villagers in Staxigoe rallied round to take part in a tidy-up day which was described as "a good community effort".

The main focus of the voluntary work on Sunday was around the harbour area, while some residents chose to make sure their gardens were looking as attractive as possible.

The event was organised by the village hall committee.

A beach clean was carried out and several benches were moved to safe spots. New planters were put in place below the weather vane overlooking the harbour, and the nearby steps were cleaned up with weeds being removed.

Old ropes and some pieces of metalwork were left to be collected by Highland Council's waste team, courtesy of Kenny Gow.

Local resident Ian Swanson was on hand to explain aspects of local history as the volunteers went about their tasks in the sunshine.

Hall committee chairperson Pat Ramsay said: "It was a great day's work, a good community effort – and the weather was gorgeous.

"Quite a lot of swimmers are going out to the harbour and folk have commented on how bonny the area is. It's such a lovely place for local people and for tourists as well."

Later on Sunday, local residents and KW1 Kool Water Sw1mmers enjoyed a dip in the clear water of Staxigoe harbour.
