Residents of Staxigoe, Papigoe and Noss got together on Sunday to celebrate the King’s coronation with a community beach-clean followed by a picnic, with about 25 people attending.
The Staxigoe harbour area was decorated with red, white and blue bunting and the Union flag. The weather was kind, with some sunshine and a drop in the wind.
Staxigoe hall chairperson Pat Ramsay said: "Allan Bruce from the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council kindly allowed us to borrow their litter-picking gear, which was a great help.
"Everyone got to work and we were amazed at the amount of litter and debris collected from what looked like a clean beach initially!
"The Highland Council refuse team picked up the rubbish collected from the top of the harbour.
"Everyone brought their own picnic and we were treated to a delicious slice of Debbie Aitkenhead’s coronation sponge.
"The children made crowns to wear for the occasion and all received prizes for their efforts."
A coronation chicken sandwich competition was judged by Frances Thain and Susan Henderson, who were impressed with the eight entries. Alison Gunn took first place, with Debbie Aitkenhead second and Tracey Miller third.
Mrs Ramsay added: "In all, it was a great afternoon with the community really coming together to celebrate such a historic occasion."
