The Staxigoe community rallied round for a clean-up of the village and shoreline, collecting two dozen bags of rubbish.

The voluntary effort on Sunday was praised by village hall chairperson Pat Ramsay.

“We had a great village and beach clean-up with a squad of 21 folk, including quite a few of the Staxigoe Selkies swimming group,” she said.

“The beach area is looking so much better, as well as the verges and fences.

“We had 24 bags of rubbish in total, plus additional bits. Let’s continue to keep it tidy.”

Mrs Ramsay thanked John and Norette Bogle for their work and said the volunteers were also grateful to Wick Paths Group for the loan of equipment.

The rubbish was all uplifted on Monday by Highland Council.

Mrs Ramsay added: “There is great support for these community events.”
